I am interested in the Edwards family.

Thomas Henry RIVES lived for awhile on the Nutbush in Warren. An old letter at NC Archives and repeated in The ALSTON'S and ALLSTON'S of North and South Carolina by Joseph Groves regarding the Rives family makes mention of the EDWARDS family across the creek. Thomas Henry Rives had been in Mecklinburg Cty., Va. prior to Warren but after Warren he removed to and died in Chatham Cty., NC in 1809. He was born in Va. ca1740. He m. first a Neal and 2nd Mary EDWARDS ca1769.

I am researching ALSTON and YEARGAIN. I am particularly interested in the grandsons of Joseph John Alston of Halifax Cty., NC, through his son Lt. Col. William Alston (m. Anne Yeargain, dau. of Samuel who d. 1784, who lived north side Roanoke River, Warren) who died in Chatham Cty., NC in 1789. These children were Orendatus Davis Alston, William Chancy Alston, and John Joseph Alston. I am also interested in the parents and grandparents of Thomas Alston who married Sarah Yancey Yeargain, much younger 1/2 sister of above Anne (Yeargain) Alston.

I am researching Adam WILLIAMS and the following allied families: Miranda Edwards HAWKINS his wife. His wife Miranda died in 1907 and is buried in the Ridgeway Baptist Church cemetary near Manson, (Soul City) Warren County, North Carolina. Family stories indicates that he was a runnaway slave from Mississippi. Adam WILLIAMS died in 1933 at the reported age of 123 years old. He had a blacksmith shop located in Ridgeway, Warren County, North Carolina. I am in search of any photograghs of Adam Williams and his burial site. I have receive information suggesting that Adam WILLIAMS was a slave of Peter DAVIS and was given to a daughter (Pitchford).

Joshua MORGAN m Elizabeth Clay in Mecklenburg Co VA, where they lived; the last record of them there is 1996. Their sons Samuel b1794, Rolly, Carey first show up in TN in 1817. There is some evidence that Joshua served in the NC Militia during the War of 1812 - so because of this and the proximity of Meck. Co VA to Warren Co NC, I am hoping that someone can help me find him.

DICKERSON, Margaret m.GARROTT, Thomas abt 1770 in BUTE Co. NC. They moved on to Wake Co. NC, then line moved to Gibson Co. TN. Have NO IDEA of Margaret DICKERSONs parents.

THOMAS, Sarah m.WINSTON, Isaac in (I think) BUTE Co. NC. Sarah THOMAS d.Bute Co. abt 1773. These families probably spilled over into Franklin Co. as well.

In my researching of the Newell surname I have hit a roadblock in Warren Co., North Carolina during late 1700's. My Great Great Grandfather, Camp Plummer NEWELL, was born in Wake Co., North Carolina, November 11, 1797, and died, June 12, 1877, Carroll County, Mississippi. I believe that Camp was the son of Peter Newell and Susanna Durham HAIL (Haile, Hale), daughter William DURHAM and Margaret COLCLOUGH. They were married on 11-9-1795.

I have located a NEWELL family in Warren County who I believe are ancestors of Peter. John Newell, Sr., and wife Lucy had 8 Children:

3. Rebecca Newell - married William MYRICK
4. John Newell
5. Edward Newell - married Sally MOODY
6. David Hyde Newell - married Nancy CHEEK

I believe Peter Newell to be the son of either John Newell or a William Newell but have no proof at this time. Peter and Susanna Newell left Warren Co. around 1810 moving to Kentucky (maybe Green then Simpson Counties).

Camp Plummer NEWELL married married Louise E., maiden name unknown. I have undocumented evidence that they had 3 children:

Joseph EPPS did not have any children. He married his 2nd wife in 1875 at P.G. ALSTON'S house. Joe EPPS, as he was called, and Lucy had nephew Gilbert WATSON (1879-?) and Thenis WATSON (1880-?) living with them during the 1900 census of Fork township. Linny was living with Joe in the 1880 census. She was 80 years old and blind.

Phyllis PERRY was the widow of Louis PERRY (1858-bef 1900).

Albert was a preacher who, it is said, donated the land that Fork Chapel church was built on in that section of Warren County known as the Fork.

The Richardson'S I am descended from originated in Halifax County. They were free people of color. My great grandmother was Idella RICHARDSON b 1873 in Halifax Co d 1958 Warren Co. She married James ALSTON 1872-1829, a descendant of slaves.

Idella's father, Rufus b 1844 in Halifax, married Mary COPELAND and was the son of Nancy RICHARDSON b 1825 in Halifax. She was the daughter of Absalom b 1790 in Halifax, a blacksmith, and Rhoda RICHARDSON b 1796 in Edgecombe Co.

Absalom shows up in the 1850 Warren Co census. He is the owner of 1 slave. In the 1860 Warren Co census it is reported that he is a blacksmith in Grove Hill. Does anyone know if this was a section of Warren County or the name of a plantation?
