Thomas Henry RIVES lived for awhile on the Nutbush in Warren. An old letter at NC Archives and repeated in The ALSTON'S and ALLSTON'S of North and South Carolina by Joseph Groves regarding the Rives family makes mention of the EDWARDS family across the creek. He m. first a Neal and 2nd Mary EDWARDS ca1769.

Idella's father, Rufus b 1844 in Halifax, married Mary COPELAND and was the son of Nancy RICHARDSON b 1825 in Halifax. She was the daughter of Absalom b 1790 in Halifax, a blacksmith, and Rhoda RICHARDSON b 1796 in Edgecombe Co.
Absalom shows up in the 1850 Warren Co census. He is the owner of 1 slave. In the 1860 Warren Co census it is reported that he is a blacksmith in Grove Hill. Does anyone know if this was a section of Warren County or the name of a plantation?
Absalom and Rhoda's children:
Nancy (1825-abt 1895)
Hardy (1830-?) mar Mary SILVER
Littleton (1833-?)
I am missing possibly 8 other people that were in the house in the Halifax Co 1840 census.
Nancy's children:
Rufus G. (1844-1921) mar Mary COPELAND
Lucy Ann (1846-bef 1896) mar William H. WOODARD
Ginnie (1849-?) mar James E. HOWELL
Plummer (1852-?)
Alston (1853-?)
I do not know if Nancy was ever married.
Hardy married Mary SILVER; their children:
Sally Ann (1857-?) mar William BOONE
Lawrence (1858-?)
Absalom (1861-?) mar Hixie RICHARDSON
Matilda (1862-?) mar Ricks RICHARDSON
Mary (1864-?) mar James RICHARDSON, II.
It has been very difficult tracing the RICHARDSON'S because most of the records I am looking for are missing. There was a fire at the Halifax Co courthouse that destroyed many records.
Also need Nancy's parents. She was b. abt 1810-1820.
