HARRIS, POWELL, POWER posted by Becky DOZIER on Thursday, August 7, 1919

Cicero Harris' death certificate had these facts about him. Name: Cicero Bulter HARRIS Wife: Betsy Father: Billy POWELL/POWER, b. Halifax Co., NC --the death certifcate was on microfilm and very small and hard to read with the naked eye. I didn't have a magnfying glass with me. Also everything always on a death certifcate is not right. we use it as a guide, not as actual proof until it is proven. So Billy might not have been born in Halifax co. Also remember that the town/area of Littleton was in both Halifax Co. and Warren and often people didn't know which area they lived in--Warren or Halifax county. Mother: Stepney Death: Aug 7, 1919--Halifax Co., NC Age at death: 98 years and 8 months -- which means he was born in Jan 1821

HARRIET, HARRIS posted by Celeste Marshall on Monday, March 2, 1998

Searching for ancestor, sibling, descendant and slave owner information on HARRIET HARRIS. Only known information about HARRIET was obtained from her son's marriage certificate (dated 1/24/1868), Alfred HARRIS, who was a slave to James Young Harris. It is possible that Harriet was a slave of James as well, but do not have the data to prove or disprove this theory. Interestingly, on Alfred's death certificate (1936) there is a HARRIET HARRIS indicated as the informant. Perhaps this HARRIET is a granddaughter named for her grandmother?

HARRISS posted by Celeste Marshall on Wednesday, April 7, 1999

The 1910 Sixpound census reflects a Natt Harriss (age 64), wife Ann (age 55) and children Unice, Natt and Amelia (a total of 13 children born; 9 surviving). Is anyone researching this lineage? I am curious as they reside next to my ancestors, Richard Harriss and Rommie Harriss on Warrenton-Embro Road. I'm wondering if there is a familial connection. Please contact me directly at Heritage2@aol.com for further discussion.

EDGERTON, KEARNEY posted by Kia Hall on Wednesday, April 7, 1999

Tom KEARNEY is in the 1870 WARREN county,NC census with his son A. 12 yrs old. I think this is my great grandfather,ALSBURN KEARNEY although his name is spelled differently in the 1880-1920 census'. He is in the 1880 WAKE county,NC census with his wife MANDY, 2 daughters Martha & Eliza and a boy listed as his servant Cuffie Edgerton. Amanda Edgerton is my great grand mothers' maiden name and I think she is from Rutherford county.

There is also an Osburn Kearney and family listed in dwelling #27 next to Tom & A. in the 1870 census. I'm attempting to link my grandparents with children of the approximate age & name in the state of their birth and from my dated, valid link, the 1880 WAKE county,NC census.

Any assistance will be very deeply appreciated.

DAILEY, DAILY, DALY posted by Carolyn Hervey on Wednesday, April 7, 1999

I am looking for information on my great-great-great-grandmother, Minta Dailey. Minta was born in North Carolina (Warren County??) c.a. 1810 - 1820. She was owned by John Dailey of Warren County. Dailey brought Minta and her children to Dallas County, Arkansas between 1851-59. Minta's two oldest children (Dilsey & Della) were also slaves, as were some of their children. I am looking for a bill of sale for my ancestor, Minta. I do not believe that John Dailey was her original owner, as he migrated to Warren County from Brunswick County, Virginia. The 1830 census shows Dailey as the owner of thirteen slaves, but by 1840 he is listed as owning forty slaves. He appears to have purchased at least fifteen slaves between 1830 and 1840, possibly in Warren County. I believe my great-great-great-grandmother, Minta (sometimes spelled Minty) was in that group, as were some of her children (Dilsey and Della). I am looking for deed records, will and estate records, etc. for John Dailey/Daily/Daly. Please let me know if you have any information that you might be willing to share. Thank You!
